A partial denture is designed to fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth. It is either a plastic or metal plate with a number of false teeth attached to it. It usually clips onto some of your natural teeth via metal clasps, which hold it securely in place in your mouth. It can easily be unclipped and removed.

Highly reinforcing restorations such as onlays and full crown coverage enhance the durability and strength and reduce the likelihood of non-restorable tooth fractures. Extending the crown preparation apically and placing the margins subgingivally is indicated occasionally to reduce the likelihood of developing primary or secondary and recurrent root caries on the exposed surfaces of the teeth.

Decontamination of impressions is a multi-step process to be conducted in accord with the device or material manufacturer’s instructions. In general terms, the procedure will be as follows: Immediately after removal from the mouth, rinse under clean running water. This process should continue until the device is visibly clean. If the impression is grossly contaminated it should be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath containing detergent and then rinsed The device should then be disinfected following the manufacturer's recommendations. Products that are suitable for the disinfection of impressions, prostheses or appliances are CE marked to demonstrate conformity to European Directives. Commercially prepared solutions are generally available for use. Ensure impression / laboratory work is immersed for recommended contact time. Avoid spray disinfectants, which are less effective and create an inhalation risk. After disinfection, the device should again be thoroughly washed. a label to indicate that a decontamination process has been used should be affixed to the package
