What is UWE referencing?

UWE referencing, or UWE Harvard referencing, is a variation of the Harvard style specific to the University of the West of England. It broadly follows the Author-Date system. It’s crucial that you follow the UWE style exactly, as this is what you’ll be marked on.

The specifics of the UWE referencing system can be found on the University of the West of England website.

How to UWE reference

Similar to other Harvard variations, in-text citations are required and should be placed in brackets within the body of the text containing the author’s surname and date of publication. The rest of the source information needs to go in the bibliography at the end of the document.

For Harvard referencing in the UWE style, author names and the first word of titles should be capitalised. The whole title is italicised to distinguish it from surrounding text. You should avoid secondary referencing altogether.

Need a hand with your referencing? Then try the Cite This For Me web tool and mobile app. We’ll help you ditch those piles of books, late night reading up on the style and stressful last minute tweaks. Simple.

A selection of 864 bus drivers were tested at 9 different locations to observe their driving skills which could later be said that more accidents could be predicted as well as supervisors ratings. In order to be a good bus driver, the driver had to ‘be there, be safe, and be courteous’. In line with cultural expectations, a key support role was
played by adult children, while some Greek-speaking GPs and MPs also
mediated information and service access. Many older Greeks appear to be living
independently in the community, but this is only possible because of high levels of
287
informal support from close family. Those without children may therefore be more vulnerable to social isolation

The range of mediating and support roles could also put considerable pressure on
some children (particularly daughters), especially if they were in paid work and/or
had their own family or other commitments:

This heavy reliance on adult children for support raises the question of what
elders do when they have no children, or have none living close-by (Newman et al., 2012)

As teachers, we try to involve parents in assessment and we communicate to them the result of their child's assessment. As a parent, when I communicate with my children's teachers, I ask about the things that we can do at home to improve my children's learning and things that they can do to improve their own learning. I try to find out how their teachers are actually helping them maximise their achievement and their potentials. After talking to their teachers, I feel that my children like discussing the result of the discussion between me and their teachers, and this inspires me to discuss things about their assessment at school. After our discussion about the result of their assessment, I feel that they are more inspired to study, too. On this light, aside from the things I mentioned, how does parent's involvement in his/her child's assessment help in achieving quality learning?
How does parental involvement contribute to improved learning?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated (^-^). Have a great day ! (Sudo, 2014)

[...]

""Female circumcision is not part of Islam. Rather, it is a traditional custom. Under no circumstances should we follow this custom, because it leaves a deep wound in the souls of these girls, which has a psychological, emotional, and social impact on their lives. Female circumcision does a lot of damage. This damage is harmful, and it shatters the girl's soul. Therefore, it is absolutely forbidden to perform this custom. No person should do this, because it is harmful and causes damage.

[...]

""This is a despicable, ugly, and evil custom. It is performed by a woman who uses inappropriate and non-sterile instruments. She may be passing on to the girl a terrible disease, or causing her a wound that never heals, because the person who performs this custom lacks expertise and experience, and does not know how to sterilize the instruments, and therefore she inflicts terrible diseases upon the girls."" (Anon, 2007)
